The journey of an world champion by Patrick

29 Mar The journey of an world champion by Patrick

Our next Blue Danube Speakers meeting is our club-contest! We have two kinds of contest in our toastmasters-year!
Spring:  International Speech and Evaluation Contest
Fall: Humorous Speech and Table Topic Contest

Journey of an world champion

The objective of an International Speech is to move and inspire the audience. Using existing skills to support the message and use stories, personal stories! The International Speech contest ends at the World Championship of Public Speaking. This year in Kuala Lumpur. The journey starts at club level! The first step of being a world champion is competing at club level.

After that the journey leads a club contest winner to contests at next levels:

  • International Speech Contest at Area Level (Austria)
  • International Speech Contest at Division Level (Czech Republic, Austria)
  • Semi- and Finals of the International Speech Contest at District Level (Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Hungary, Poland, Netherlands)

The winner of the International Speech Contest at District Level is able to participate at the world championship in Kuala Lumpur, starting with semi-finals and after that the finals. Of course on every level – only the winner is able to advance at the next level!

Evaluation Contest

To improve our skills on stage every speaker has an evaluator at meetings! The evaluator is accurately looking at the speech and is preparing a feedback speech! The evaluated speaker receives suggestions for improvement and the evaluator improves impromptu speaking!

The focus on an evaluation is:

  • What was done very good?
  • What can be even better for the next time?
  • What are suggestions for improvement?

This kind of feedback is very motivating and leads a speaker to improve from speech to speech!

So what happens now on an evaluations contest?

A “target-speaker” from another club gives a speech in our club! Every evaluation-contest listens to the speech. After that the contestants have five minutes time to prepare an evaluation. Of course the contestants cannot here each others evaluation!

The winner of the evaluation contest is that person with the best speaking skills as well as that person with the most original and motivating feedback!

So it’s contest season again! We have our next contest at April, 7th in Alte Welt, starting at 6.45PM!
Karin will be your host! I will be your chief judge, beside my team of judges! And we will have a lot of interesting speakers and competitors!

The first step of being a world champion is starting competing at club level!

See you on Monday, April 7th!
